Discovering and Coping with Celiac Disease: A Review of “Gluten Free Girl” by Shauna James Ahern

Wow, this book is such a culinary delight. Not only do I feel invited to learn about someone else’s (Shauna’s) life and struggles with Celiac Disease, but she delivers her story along with the Barbecued Pork and Aromatic Jasmine Rice.

The Story of Gluten Free Girl

The book “Gluten Free Girl” is divided into two parts. The first part narrates Shauna’s life before her diagnosis, where she describes her love for food and cooking, and how celiac disease turned her world upside down. Her writing is vivid and emotive, and she manages to take the reader on an emotional rollercoaster with her. The second part of the book is where Shauna discusses how she learned to cope with her condition and her new lifestyle.

Shauna’s Unique Writing Style

What sets Gluten Free Girl apart from other books on celiac disease is Shauna’s writing style. She writes with passion and humor, and her words are relatable and uplifting. Recommendation

Overall, Gluten Free Girl is an inspiring memoir that offers hope and encouragement to those who may be struggling with celiac disease. Ahern’s writing is engaging, and her recipes are a testament to the fact that a gluten-free lifestyle can be just as delicious as any other. This book is highly recommended for anyone who wants to learn more about celiac disease, or for those who simply love a good memoir.

Shauna gives you tips and hints about transitioning to a GF life blended with the Tomato, Fava Bean and Gruyere Salad, and she finishes up with some comforting news that we, too, can live a happy and healthy life while indulging in the Ecuadorian Shrimp Ceviche.

This book is a splash of gluten-free, a drizzle of Jamie Olivier, and I definitely hear Julia Childs in there, too, somewhere. Whether you’re intolerant or Celiac, it’s well worth the time… I recommend this book is best enjoyed over some Bruschetta and a glass of wine, or perhaps just quietly at the beach!
